Con una collaborazione di circa 20 paesi europei, Europan organizza il più grande concorso a scala europea, che si svolge ogni due anni nel campo dell'architettura, dell'urbanistica e del paesaggio.

VILLE+SAMBRE+VILLE
The project site is located on the left bank of  the river  Sambre, which is today considered the rear side of the city, while the right bank is characterized by a more structured city form. The project title is ville+Sambre+ville: its core is the creation of a public riverside park, beginning in the site and extending northwestward, in the study areas and beyond; the park will be a major attractor, that will improve the riverside and give equal urban status to both banks. The connection between the two city parts is then made by the river itself and by its renewed pedestrian-cycle bridge. The project proposes the construction of a residential eco-quarter on the site: living in Sambreville could be a good opportunity to enjoy nature proximity without moving too far from major urban centers.

Jury point of view
The project builds on the Sambre, which becomes a structural part of the project. Well-defined hierarchy of pedestrian pathways, bike alleys and roads for cars. Attractiveness of housing clusters around shared common spaces. Integration of housing and nature by progressive interpenetration under the form of two combs. Coherent , fitting and realistic at all levels, which appears to be a real sustainable neighbourhood....
